百老汇泛指聚集在纽约曼哈顿剧院区与林肯中心的剧院，均为座位500 个以上的专业剧院，与伦敦西区（West End）齐名，是英语系国家中最高等级的剧院区，尤以音乐剧演出而闻名。另外还有分为规模较小，比较具有实验性质的外百老汇（Off-Broadway）与外外百老汇（Off- Off-Broadway）。

整个百老汇同时上演的剧那么多，只要想清楚各自的需求，不坚持跟大家挤超级大热门，一定都能买到不错的票。有些人只是图个经验，这辈子应该不会再看第二次，那就找设备好、气氛佳的剧院买张便宜的票，进去到处逛，舒舒服服坐下来随便看什么都好；如果真的是音乐剧爱好者，但英文能力不佳，就找歌曲旋律动听、已经了解剧情的戏，好好听一晚上的歌；至于一定要看最热门、最让人「哇!」的戏的人，当然要提前上网订票。
